A Family Found

Welcome to the collected memorabilia of an American family as compiled by descendent Marta Elizabeth Hoyer. Darius and Melissa Appleby Myers were born in the Oswego area of New York. They raised their children in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, and then settled in Central California in 1890. Here are the history, legends, poetry, anecdotes, letters, art, artifacts, and geneology of that family and one line of descendents. This will always be a work in progress. And the story begins ...

Children and Grandchildren
Glen Hazel married Alfred Wyckliffe. Their daughters Winifred Clara (Winnie) and Wilma Caroline were raised by Susie, after both Glen and Alfred died young.
Patience Leora. Died at age 3.
Gertrude Evangeline married Fred Roy Rhodes. Their offspring were Doris Ellen, Hazel Maurine, Mabel Fern, and Frederick Richard (Fred).
Earl Stedman married Alice Riedel. Their son was Edward Earl Myers. Earl Stedman died at age 29.
Trueman. Died as an infant.
Mildred Maurine (Lucindy). Died at age 9.

Darius and Melissa Myers Family in 1866

Darius holds Marietta Elsie (Etta), with Epaminondas Philo (Pam or Phil) behind him. Louise Edith (top) and Ida Jane (Janey) are in the middle. Melissa holds Lydia Belvedere with Rebecca Jane behind her. Tiny Melissa bore fourteen children. Twelve survived to adulthood, and all but Rebecca moved to California in the 1890s. Euclid Hannibal died at 18 mos and Janey at age 6. Rebecca settled in Florida where she and her husband would die young. The older brothers brought most of her children to California.
